The project “Scibby” is a mobile game combined with augmented reality features. It consists of two applications, the mobile-app running on a mobile-phone and the augmented-reality AR-app.
You create a character on your mobile phone, he’s called Scibby, and you can interact with him. You have to feed him, educate him or just play with him. Everything you do affects the stats of your Scibby. Basically, you can make him evil or good.
If you think your Scibby is strong enough, you are able to get him into (augmented) reality out of your mobile phone. Just place your mobile-phone in front of your webcam and start the AR-application. Then a 3D-model of your Scibby will raise out of your phone and then you can move the model for example on the table. The stats are displayed on the screen too.
We used j2me as programming language and Eclipse Pulsar as IDE for the mobile application, C++ as programming language and Xcode as IDE for the AR application. We also used openFrameworks with the ARToolkitPlus addon for the marker tracking so we get the coordinates of the plane of the table and the coordinates of the mobile phone so that we know where to raise the Scibby out of.
